Weekly Wishes for Confidence: July 15

15 July 2013

Happy Monday everybody! I hope you all had a great weekend. Today it's time to check in to see how I did with last week's weekly wishes, and set some new wishes for this week.

Last week, my wish was to wear bright lipstick every day. I want to build my confidence, and since I always think of women who wear bright lipstick as being confident, I wanted to emulate that. I succeeded in wearing bright lipstick every day, and when I wore it, I did feel more put-together. I actually got sick for two days and still wore the lipstick, and though I felt quite yucky, the lipstick made me feel a little more presentable. All in all, I would say last week's wish was a success!

If you're interested in trying out bright lipstick for yourself, but you're a little bit hesitant, here are a few tips for wearing bright lips in Summer:

  • Keep it simple. Don't go all-out with your makeup, or you can look a bit clownish. Instead keep a clean face (I used BB cream with sunscreen), put on some mascara, then swipe on your bright lipstick.
  • Stick with lighter colors for Summer. I have one or two darker reds, but they're just not appropriate this time of year. Instead, opt for bright pinks and lighter reds.
  • Smile! Just have fun with it- bright lips show off your best asset- your smile. Go ahead and rock that bright lipstick!

This week, I want to build my strength to build my confidence. I already practice yoga 2-3 times a week, but I really want to focus on getting some strength, especially given my knee issues. So this week, I would like to do some strength-training 3 times this week. Hopefully this will help me prepare for some more challenging hikes coming up this Summer, as well as make me feel like an all-around badass.

So my friends, how was your weekend? Do you have any plans for the week to boost your confidence? I'd love to hear from you in the comments below!

  1. You are ROCKING that bright lipstick, you know. Looks wonderful! I've never tried really wearing lipstick, but I agree it makes you look put-together and I really want to get into it! Maybe I'll invest in a couple shades this week. Thanks for the tips! :) And totally off-topic, but I saw you leave a comment on another blog recently (I honestly forget which one) about working through your relationship that is on the rocks, and I just wanted to say that I hope you are finding the courage to do what you need to do. It's always so difficult when relationships begin to end. I find myself thinking that mine will eventually come to a close, too, and that even though it's hard to imagine and painful to think about, I know it's something I need to do. I am here for you during this process if you ever need someone to listen! :)

    1. Thank you! :) Those sunnies are from Ray-Ban, I got mine at Nordstrom 3 years ago, but they still seem to be in style (to me, though, they will never go out of style).

  5. What a great goal you had last week and way to actually go through with it! I love wearing dark and bright lipsticks and always start with a nude lipliner and they keep really well that way throughout the day and make touchups easier.

  6. Rachel. You pull of lip color so well! I am still trying to get in the hang of it... lol, I too, bought lipstick for a little confidence boost. I wanted to feel a little more feminine. Although I feel a bit weird in lip stick, because I'm not use to it, it does do the trick of making me a little more feminine. :)

This week I start a new job! Well, same job but at a new location. I'm really excited about it! BUT, I definitely plan to boost up my confidence a bit. I mean, I gotta. I'm working IN midtown, a busy area with a better clientele... and my co-workers are pretty badass. So I gotta be able to keep up. :) I got a new outfit + accessories. And I just gotta stat pumped up.. and I think I'll be fine. :)

    1. That sounds exciting! I think you'll be fantastic :) I think if there were ever a time to rock the lipstick, now is it! It was hard to get used to full lipstick, since I've been more of a tinted lip gloss girl, but I feel way more polished, and feminine in a way that I admire (I think of glamorous movie stars in the 50s and 60s).

Well, I'm excited for your new job...situation? ;) Sounds like a fun change. I hope it goes really well!

    1. Thank you! If you miss it, you should get back to it! Start small- I've found that's the best way. :)

  9. I love this idea Rachel! I feel like lipstick is a lot like nail polish in that it gives you that extra oomph in your step. I have never felt comfortable either in bright lipstick - do you think it's something you'll incorporate into your regular make-up routine now that you're gotten "used" to it?
You look beautiful in all the pics by the way! Can't tell you are sick in two of them!

    1. Thank you so much! I've still been wearing bright lipstick because I kind of got used to it and feel a little naked without it. Red is particularly fun because it is so classic, and it really feels like me.

  10. I love the idea too! I wear red lipstick maybe once a week during the year but during the summer I'm outdoors too much for it to look natural. Maybe I'll try to wear it at night a little more! And building your strength is soo rewarding...I for some reason like doing pushups and it feels so amazing when I do a few more than I did the last time. Good luck! xx

    1. Thank you! I agree, wearing red lips outdoors feels odd, but I do have a natural lip balm that is crimson that worked out perfectly for outdoors. It's an earthier red, made from natural ingredients (no red dye). I need the strength training so bad! I know it will help me with my hiking, and hopefully it will help my posture- that's a great idea to always do more pushups than you did last time!
